Hello!
Welcome to our last prānāyāma practice of this challenge. Today you will be exploring alternate nostril breathing. The video below is helpful showing you the hand gesture or finger placement on your forehead and nostrils.
There are different variations of this practice, the one I guide today is a non-retention practice, meaning there is no holding of the breath in between inhales and exhales.
Nadi shodhana “is meant specifically for purifying and cleansing the nadir, or subtle channels of energy in our body” -Embody Yoga’s Roots workbook. In other words, “this practice balances energy on the right and left sides of the body, and the right and left hemispheres of the brain.” -Accessible Yoga workbook.
What did you think of this practice? What did you notice after you completed the practice? How did you feel?
If you really enjoyed the prānāyāma and wish to practice for longer or learn more about it. I recently found this podcast episode from Let’s Talk Yoga, which guides you through different phases of this practice.
